The golden path's 'trap' is slowing tar, while the red path's 'trap' is toxic fumes.

While I agree that sniping is a good solution for the red path, I think it's also the only one. In the red door at least, the only one that forces you to move are doing so from long range, so I can snipe from afar, and attack scarlet/the rock creeps at my own convenience.
